Popular: B197 driving license without automatic restriction
For two years now, the B197 automatic driving license has made it possible to take the practical test on an automatic vehicle and still drive a manual car afterwards. Here are the most important regulations:
No restrictions on the driver's license:
With the B197, there are no restrictions that were previously defined by the key number 78. This only permitted the driving of automatic vehicles. Now, training can be combined on vehicles with manual and automatic transmissions without this being restricted on the driver's license.
Requirements for the B197:
Driving training must take place on both manual and automatic vehicles:
- At least ten driving hours on a class B manual car are required.
- A 15-minute test drive inside or outside built-up areas in a manual car, accompanied by a driving instructor, is necessary to prove that you are fit to drive.
- After completing these requirements, a certificate is issued in accordance with Annex 7 of the learner driver training regulations.
No additional check:
No separate manual transmission test is required for the B197. The actual driving test can be taken with an automatic vehicle, while the driving ability for manual transmission is proven by the test drive.
Have the automatic note removed:
The automatic restriction can be lifted after the ten shift hours and the 15-minute test drive, whereby the key number 78 is replaced by 197. However, this does not apply if the restriction exists for medical reasons.
Valid abroad:
With the B197, manual vehicles may also be driven abroad, as the key number 197 merely documents that the test was taken on an automatic vehicle.
Additional costs:
There is a fee of around 30 euros for registering the key number B197. There are no additional costs, as the switching hours are integrated into the regular training.
