Practical training and examination
- Basic Training: The basic training predominantly takes place in an automatic vehicle but can also be started with a manual vehicle.
- Special Training Drives: The special training drives can take place partly in an automatic vehicle and partly in a manual vehicle.
- Exam Preparation / Readiness Assessment: Exam preparation and readiness assessment are conducted in an automatic vehicle.
- Readiness Assessment / Test Drive: A test drive with a minimum duration of 15 minutes is required. This test drive must be completed successfully before the practical driving test. It can only be conducted after at least 10 practice hours in a manual vehicle have been completed. During the test drive, the instructor will assess whether the student can operate the manual vehicle safely, responsibly, and in an environmentally conscious manner. After a successful test drive, the student will receive a certificate.
- Practical Exam: The driving test will be conducted in an automatic vehicle.
For further information
- Can you drive a manual vehicle abroad with a driver's license that has code number 197? Yes, the three-digit code number has only national significance and indicates that the practical driving test was taken in an automatic vehicle. It does not have any restrictive effect abroad.
- Are there any disadvantages of class B with code number 197 compared to class B without the code? Initially, there are no disadvantages. With both types of licenses, the same vehicles can be driven after passing the test. However, differences might arise when obtaining an additional driving license class.
